Local businesses in hospitality are being encouraged to showcase their passion for food as part of the upcoming 2022 Taste Bundaberg Festival.

Bundaberg Regional Council is inviting food companies to apply to participate in the 10-day festival by hosting a tantalising event in celebration of the farmers, carvers, distillers, brewers, fishermen and graziers who provide fresh flavours to the community.

Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the opportunity would allow for local businesses to inspire with innovative creations and unique events.

“Proposals can include events such as dining experiences, farm gate tours, classes and tastings, a PYO (pick your own) adventure, or be part of the Taste Bundaberg Festival Inaugural Dessert Trail,” he said.

“We are so lucky to have such a diverse and strongly connected region and the Taste Bundaberg Festival aims to promote the collective efforts of food and hospitality businesses,  showcasing the support and encouragement that exists within this thriving industry.

“This is an opportunity not to be missed!”

A new feature to this year’s event will include the Dessert Trail and local businesses with something sweet to share are invited to get on board.

“This new initiative provides an opportunity for businesses to activate within the festival on a smaller scale – creating a dessert item exclusive to the ten days of the festival, made from at least 75% local produce,” Cr Learmonth said.

The Dessert Trail aims to provide the community further opportunity to experience and celebrate Bundaberg’s food delights and the tantalizing treats on offer.”

Cr Learmonth said last year's Taste Bundaberg Festival enjoyed massive success, with sold-out events and experiences held across the 10-day extravaganza.

He said this year, the festival was back to showcase authentic food and drink experiences crafted from the rich farmlands and pristine coastline of the Bundaberg Region.

“We have so much on offer and what better way to highlight our diverse food bowl then by being part of one of the region's most popular events,” he said.

“Taste Bundaberg Festival is all about celebrating those strong relationships between our farming community and local businesses and all of the good work being achieved.”
