The coastline between Burnett Heads and Elliott Heads contains the most southerly fringing coral reefs on the Eastern Australian mainland and is home to a wide variety of marine life.
Bundaberg prides itself on being the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and Bundaberg Region Council is proud to be involved in the Reef Guardian program, which encourages teachers and students to take action to help protect the reef and its connected ecosystems.
There are several ways community members can help in the protection and management of the Great Barrier Reef, these include:
- Reporting sightings and threats
- Join a community organisation
- Take action regardless of where you live
