Mixed weather conditions this weekend

Craig Holden says that mixed weather conditions are set to continue on beaches this weekend.

Well, it has been another mixed bag of weather this past week, but one thing was constant – it was quite warm!

Looking ahead it appears we are in for more of the same – warm weather followed by a slightly milder weekend.

Scattered thunderstorms are also a possibility too and winds will be variable but generally only light to moderate at best.

Tomorrow will bring S/SE to E/SE winds at around 15 knots, before Sunday then brings E/NE winds at around 10 knots only.

There will be some sunny skies before some cloud cover arrives for the weekend.

Swimming

The swimming conditions have been okay during the last week and we can expect more of the same over the coming days but with the wind direction being variable, different beaches will be better on different days!

Today, beaches such as Agnes Water, Hervey Bay, Moore Park, and Nielson Park will be the better options as the wind direction changes to be from the SE.

But then by Sunday, swimmers will find better swimming conditions at Kelly’s Beach and Elliott Heads.

High tides are due around mid-morning over the coming days too, so this will be a good time to hit the beach.

Please check with the lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages and most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!

Beach patrols: Saturday and Sunday – 9 am – 5 pm at Kelly's Beach and Agnes Water only.

Surfing

There have been plenty of small, clean and fun-size waves about our local beaches during this past week but with those northerly winds kicking in again, these could be short lived.

The winds are forecast to be quite variable over the weekend, so your best chance of finding a few small waves will be probably be through the early mornings.

The size will be nothing flash, but fingers crossed it is big enough for at least a play.

Happy Father's Day for Sunday to all the dads out there!
