Green Solutions celebrates massive month

Green Solutions month
By the end of 2023, Green Solutions will have produced over 27,000 tonnes of finished compost and mulch, which will all be returned to local farms as well as the wider environment across southeast Queensland and as far north as Gladstone.

Green Solutions Wide Bay has celebrated a record-breaking month to start 2023, with over 9200 vehicle visits to the site, and exceeding the previous record set back in March 2022.

This impressive accomplishment is a testament to Green Solution’s commitment to sustainability and their role in supporting the Bundaberg Regional Council's Towards Net Zero strategy.

By diverting green waste from landfill, Green Solutions is helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a valuable resource for the community.

By the end of 2023, Green Solutions will have produced over 27,000 tonnes of finished compost and mulch, which will all be returned to local farms as well as the wider environment across southeast Queensland and as far north as Gladstone.

The success of Green Solutions is in part due to the facility’s innovative approach to turning green waste into compost, but also as a result of the overwhelming support from residents, contractors and businesses who make use of the free green waste disposal service.

The compost produced at the facility is not only a sustainable solution for gardening and landscaping needs, but it also helps to improve soil health and increase plant growth across the region.

General Manager Nathan Freeman said the organisation was thrilled to start 2023 with such a strong showing of support from the community.

“This milestone reflects the importance of sustainability and the positive impact it can have on our environment, economy and community,” he said.

“We are committed to reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices in the region and have already processed 30,000 tonne of green waste and turned it into compost.

“It’s fantastic to see that we have diverted large volumes of green waste from ending up in landfill.”

The green waste disposal facility is user-friendly with automatic boom gate entry and a large drop-off pad.

The site has been made even more accessible to residents with free courtesy trailers available on site.

Green Solutions also launched its Sustainable Schools initiative last year in response to growing interest from local educators looking for a real-world application to align with classroom learning related to recycling and environmental sustainability.

“We are extremely proud of our Sustainable Schools initiative,” Nathan said.

“It allows us to engage with the next generation of recyclers and inspire them to understand the benefits of diverting waste from landfill and how we can all play a role in minimising our environmental footprints.

“Since the program launched in June, we have had almost 1000 students from local primary schools, high schools, kindergartens, and even university groups participate in a site tour.

“There’s something for everybody to learn and take away from what we are doing here.”

Green Solutions Wide Bay is dedicated to promoting sustainability and reducing waste through giving green waste a new life as compost and is leading the way in the region's transition to a more sustainable future.
