A number of water and sewer system upgrades are taking place across the Bundaberg Region to keep in line with Council’s infrastructure standards.
Bundaberg Regional Council's water and wastewater portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the first round of work included the installation of a water main link from Lakeview Drive to Hanbury Steet in Bundaberg North.
“This upgrade is being undertaken to improve the pressure reliability of the water supply network in the area,” he said.
“The project includes some drilling and excavation work plus the installation of pipework between the two mains.
“As the new infrastructure is connected to the existing water network there could be a chance of disruption to water services, however, residents will be notified when this is the case.”
Construction will take place from Monday to Friday between the hours of 6 am to 5 pm until the end of August.
Cr Bartels said work would also be undertaken to sewer systems in Thabeben and Bundaberg North from this month, with the aim to upgrade the areas with the latest in control and monitoring systems.
“There will be an upgrade to the control switchboards at two sewerage pumping stations in Hanbury Street, Bundaberg North as well as one in Wattle Street, Thabeban,” he said.
“Work will be underway until the end of June and is not expected to impact households during this time.
“Once completed, these upgrades will ensure Council's installations conform to the current electrical standards while using the latest technology available.”
Childers Access Renewable Chamber Program begins
Over the next two months, work will continue to a $150,000 project to refurbish the internal structure and integrity of sewer access chambers in Childers.
Cr Bartels said the works, which were identified during scheduled maintenance, were underway around Cevn, Churchill, Macrossan, Randall and West Streets as well as Noakes Road and Lions Drive.
“This project will assist in extending the life of the Council's sewer infrastructure in the area while also delivering cost savings by reducing ongoing maintenance,” he said.
“Work will be undertaken by local contractors from Monday to Friday within the hours of 7 am and 5 pm.
“Council would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this time.”
