From park and pool renewals to erosion protection and drainage improvements, a number of projects will be rolled out in the Childers area over the next 12 months

From park upgrades and pool renewals to roadworks and erosion management, there’s a variety of Childers district projects in this year’s Council budget.

Bundaberg Regional Council handed down its 2023-24 budget on 27 June which featured a 0% increase to general rates, a doubling of the pensioner rates rebate and a $167 million capital program.

The capital program includes regionally significant items like the Bundaberg Aquatic Centre and a new Disaster Management Coordination Centre but it also features a range of projects in Woodgate, Childers and surrounds in addition to non-capital initiatives, events and services.

Parks, venues and facilities:
A carpark upgrade and playground renewal for Banksia Park, Woodgate
An upgrade of the Apple Tree Creek Community Park
Pioneer Park toilet block renewal
Childers Swimming Pool renewal including new cleaner
Woodgate Beach Second Avenue barbecue and picnic shelter installation
Woodgate Community Park play equipment
Childers Showgrounds grandstand seating replacement

Roads and infrastructure:
Second Avenue carpark upgrade on Woodgate Esplanade
Barretts Road, Isis River drainage improvements
Kevin Livingstone Drive, Isis Central upgrade
Blue Gum Drive, Redridge truck turnaround
Woodgate erosion protection

Water and wastewater:
Childers Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade planning
Woodgate Wastewater Treatment Plant lagoon dewatering

Community and support:
Childers SES access improvements
Childers Neighbourhood Centre planning

One of the region’s most significant destination events, Bundaberg Regional Council will also once again deliver the popular Childers Festival which draws tens of thousands of eventgoers to Childers each year.

The Childers Library will also offer a full range of services and events throughout the year from its extensive catalogue to school holiday activities.
